Bilal Tembisa Islamic Centre (BTIC), is a registered Non-Profit Organisation with the Department of Social Development (NPO number 145-661). BTIC is also recognised as a Public Benefit Organisation.
Our organisation was established in 2010 with a profound realisation – in the bustling Tembisa, Ekurhuleni Metropolitan, a township home to over 3.5 million residents, there existed only one Masjid (Mosque). This stark disparity posed a challenge, an impossibility in serving the diverse needs of the community.
Tembisa comprises over 50 sub-places, yet the presence of a singular Masjid in such a vast expanse was inadequate. Motivated by the words of Allah S.W.T in the Holy Qu’ran (Chapter 3:104) urging, “Let there arise a group of people inviting to all that is good, enjoining what is right and forbidding all that is evil; they are the successful ones,” we resolved to organise a collective effort to establish a new Mosque.
Tembisa stands as the second largest township in the Gauteng Province and indeed in South Africa. Yet, with only one Masjid in existence, the dearth of facilities was palpable. The challenges facing this sole Masjid hindered the full development of Islamic services and community engagement in Tembisa. Thus, our organisation was born with the mission to alleviate these challenges and serve the needs of the community.
BTIC stands as a beacon of inclusivity and community spirit. Our doors are open to all, without discrimination or prejudice in any matter.
